Anyone that knows me knows that for as much as I love the Greater Raleigh area, I’m still a northern girl at heart. I’ve got my entire family living in Maryland and as much as I make hints to it, I still can’t seem to talk my family into moving down my way. My mother comes to visit every few months and will ask “where would I live in Raleigh if I moved here?”. I learned enough about the area to know that there are plenty of options!
I’m sure a lot of you out there are in a similar situation as myself. You have parents in their 60’s and 70’s who have strong, active lives but recognize that they are getting to the point where they either don’t want to take care of a large home any more or just can’t afford to do it as they hit retirement. More and more I am helping clients face this situation. They are either having parents move in with them so they begin looking for homes to accommodate their multigenerational family or they search to find a community that caters to the 55+ group without the assisted living vibe.
One such community is the new Creekside at Bethpage in the Brier Creek area of Durham. I’ve recently had a client who was literally one of the very first people to put in an offer on a home here. The community itself is perfectly situated near all of the shopping that Brier Creek offers, is close to all of the major highways yet looks to be thoughtfully designed to keep the integrity of the natural landscape of the area. It will offer 1300 homes on 357 acres (which will include retail space as well).
The community offers four different series of Ranch plans ranging from 1320 square feet starting at $237,900 to over 2600 square feet beginning at $382,900. Each floor plan offers a Master bedroom down with at least one extra bedroom on the main floor and almost all offer an additional bonus room space upstairs. All of the lots sizes are generous, although don’t worry, you won’t have to maintain them. The association fees cover management of all exterior (why didn’t they come up with this in my neighborhood?). Residents of Creekside will enjoy a big 15,000 square foot clubhouse, offering social rooms, pool, bocce courts, tennis courts, billiards, community garden, aerobics studio and more. They’ll have tons of activities and amenities, classes and social clubs so you’re sure to find something for everyone.I was too happy to see that the builder AV Homes is offering a nice amount of options in the base floorplan of the home. Hardwood floors, recessed & under cabinet lighting, Granite countertops in the kitchen, Stainless steel appliance package and Hardiplank exteriors.
Whenever you decide to start either looking for a place for yourself or a family member, remember that there are a lot of options out there. Whether it’s joining forces and buying a home together (yes, builders are actually creating floorplans specifically for you) or buying in a 55+ community like the one above, I’m here to help. Of course, if you find a nice place, would you please tell my mother about it?

When it comes to providing the utmost in personal service to his clients, Peter Kima is on the cutting edge. This family man's demanding work ethic was passed on from his parents. His mother, a first generation German-American, forged a new life in a strange country. His father, who has not missed a day of work since 1972, led by example. Peter does not rest until he's done everything in his power to help you achieve your goals. As a husband and a father, his understanding of the importance of a family's home is reflected in his every move.
When Peter is not helping one of his clients, he can be found volunteering his time running a charity Lobster Bingo event, cooking burgers at the local Fire Station to benefit the children in the community, delivering dictionaries to every 3rd grade student in Wake County with his Kiwanis Club, collecting school supplies for the needy, or ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. His favorite pastime, however, is spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and their two sons, Cole (12) and Camden (9 going on 20!).
Peter has resided in Germany, California, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oregon and Vermont. Having lived in North Carolina for over 10 years, Peter refers to North Carolina as home. Don't underestimate the value of Peter's moving experience. He and his team understand the rigors involved in making a family move. Rely on that experience to help you.
I have been helping buyers in the Raleigh Real Estate market for over
"Kristine and I would like to extend a sincere "thank you" for all your efforts in our home buying experience. During this entire experience we have come to look at you as more of a "friend" than just our real estate agent. The way you followed through with both written and verbal commitments is an honorable trait that you should be proud of. It makes us feel good to know that there are agents that go the extra mile like you have done for us. "
