So, you decided to move to the sixth top metro in the United States, Raleigh-Durham. First, we will welcome you with open arms and southern hospitality, cue the Bojangles and sweet tea. If you stay a while, a “pig pickin” might be in the cards a while but that’s a topic for another day.

Secondly, our team is well versed in today’s market as well as simplifying the complex and are ready to help you in your relocation to the Triangle area. So, we have found you the perfect home and you are closed but the move is looming. You have done the hard work but moving can be a hassle. Here are a few tips and tricks for you to consider when making a long-distance move that might have slipped through the cracks.

  1. Make A Thorough Schedule

No one claimed that moving was an easy task across the street let alone across state lines or across the country. However, if you fail to plan then you plan to fail. Taking the tasks from your head and putting them on a calendar and in a list can do a world of good and you will be able to spread the tasks over days as opposed to hours and when you are supposed to be out the door. You will be surprised how much you can accomplish with a solid plan. The schedule can include packing as well as the drive time to your next home. Ensure you are rested and perhaps even schedule a few fun stops along the way to break up the monotony of the trip.

  1. Pack Diligently

Depending on the length of your move, i.e. down the street or across the town, you could practically throw things in a few trucks and call some friends and be done with the move in no time. A relocation across the state, country or even world and you will know this is not the case at all. The devil is in the details when it comes time for a big move, ensure to be as detailed as possible when to labelling, no one wants to carry boxes more than they have to so knowing which room each box goes is imperative to taking the necessary steps for an efficient move. Do not forget to wrap the fragiles to mitigate breakage as well.

  1. Back-Pack

Whether you are flying or driving a backpack or other carry-on bag is a must. If you are flying, ensure what you have stowed in the carry on is compliant with the rules and regulations of the airline but an extra change of clothes and toiletries should suffice as well as a good book. If you are driving, it’s all about the snacks and good book if you are not the one driving. Having the bag handy will be one less thing to search for in a time of need.

  1. Know The Weather

Knowing the weather is important when you are travelling so you can plan accordingly activities as well as wardrobe. It is very important to know the weather on your moving day, should you need to rearrange plans due to inclement weather. I think this tip is very underrated and especially if you are moving locally and have friends helping in the heat, provide Gatorade, water and perhaps some food too.

  1. Don’t Forget About The Kids

As a dad of three, this actually might be number one in my book, while this may seem silly or un-relatable, it truly is important to me and I am guessing any other parent. A child can only sleep so much on a trip; ensure you have your creative hat on, think up games, also a portable DVD player can provide the child R&R while you are making the trip to your new home. They are excited and will want you to be in a good mood when moving into the new home.
