Affordable Ways to Create a Cozy & Charming Porch!
Do you ever drive through local neighborhoods, maybe in Wake Forest or Raleigh, and see a front porch on a home that is just absolutely charming and inviting? I bet the question that comes to your mind is, “how can I possibly recreate that feel to my porch?” It is easier than you think if you follow these simple guidelines:
Choose The Right Furniture
- Choose a color palette for furniture and pick accent colors that speak to your soul. Feel free to mix up patterns & textures!
- Wicker chairs, rockers, or benches are a must! You'll need a place to set down your sweet tea and a book while you watch the kids play.
- Add accent tables (any shape, size, or material). Wooden crates or barrels are an affordable option that add some character and can be decorated with fun outdoor accessories. They are inexpensive and eclectic!
- Add a ceiling fan if your porch space allows for it. We all know how important air flow is during North Carolina summersBring Your Vision to Life with Decorations!
- Use outdoor throw pillows to add pops of color and comfort. This is one of the easiest ways to change the look from season to season. Outdoor pillows are important as they wipe clean easily with a damp cloth.
- Add an outdoor area rug. It helps define the space, especially on a long or large porch & ties everything together.
- Hang an American flag up! That red, white, & blue is held dear to our hearts and it evokes emotions of pride.
- Lanterns are a great touch! You can hang them from the ceiling, put on end tables, or steps.
- Add some planters with your favorite flowers and greenery. I personally love galvanized pots & planters because they give a bit of the farmhouse style charm. You can even use galvanized buckets, troughs, or tubs! Your Wake Forest Home Depot and Wake Forest Lowe’s Home Improvement have some fabulous options.
- Hang a seasonal wreath on your front door. My go to for door decor is Kirkland’s in Wake Forest.
- Throw down a door mat. There are so many colors and sizes to choose from at Wake Forest stores such as Ace Hardware, Target, Kirklands, etc. They are very inexpensive but definitely leave an impression.
- Hang up clear strands of lights. The warm glow gives such a calming feel when you are sitting on your porch in the evening.
Now that you have a starting point to attain a porch that you want to actually spend time on, head to your Wake Forest businesses today and get decorating! Remember you don’t have to do everything---pick a few to start out with and add to it little by little. It takes time and money to create a “finished” space---be easy on yourself!
