Cultivate - A Fuquay Varina Coffee Roastery and Cafe

     The world of coffee and the demand for it has definitely changed or grown in the past decade.  Every other corner of large cities has a Starbucks on it and in small towns, coffee shops are a staple for everyday meetings and hangouts.  The small town of Fuquay Varina in southern Wake County is no different.  In this growing suburb of Raleigh, you can find the aforementioned Starbucks as well as coffee at Dunkin Donuts, The Mill downtown and  Stick Boy Bread Company.   What you were not finding until recently was an actual coffee roaster.  That all changed when Cultivate Coffee opened its doors back in June.

     Located in an old ambulance substation (128 S. Fuquay Ave.), Cultivate uses the large roll up bay door as a huge front window for letting light into the shop.  Owner Ben Somerville, a former minister in Apex,  was tired of the store bought options he had for his morning coffee and decided to try home roasting several years ago to see if he could come up with something he would like on a daily basis.  Five years later and over 100 subscribers for his recipe, Ben and his wife Alexandra took the plunge and opened up Cultivate as their full time job.  They know that the area is growing and until now, there was no local roaster in the area.  

     Cultivate offers many coffee drink options and the space is much larger inside than you would expect.  There are several couches and relaxed chair seats in the back along with the standard chair and table options you would expect.  It is a great place off the main road for a get together, business meeting or just a quiet date with an important someone.

     Along with coffee, Cultivate has partnered Bestow Baked Goods, a bakery in Fuquay Varina, to offer scones, cookies and cake by the slice to enjoy along with your coffee.  They also do custom cakes and offer over 100 flavors of baked items.
