Fun Fall Activities This Weekend

Fall is upon us and what better time is there to get outdoors and breathe in the cooler air and bring out your inner child? There are so many options available to us in the area which is absolutely amazing!  If you have kids or not, you are sure to find something interesting to do from my list below.

Apple Fest at Millstone Creek Orchard (9/28-9/29) Bobbing for apples, cider pressing demonstrations, hayrides, apple cider donuts, and more---what else could say FALL more than this?  I have the fondest memories of bobbing for apples with my cousins outside my grandma’s house as a child. She had an apple tree in her front yard and all the grandkids were quick to pick apples from it every season.  It is such a fun game and kids love getting wet! This year there is no U-PICK but there will be plenty of fresh apples for sale in the Apple Barn.

Scarecrow Festival (9/28 9am-noon)

Fall is not complete without a scarecrow. Get ready for fall by creating a scarecrow with friends and family at Pullen Park. They will provide the stuffing and support to make your scarecrow. All you will need to bring are the clothes, accessories, and a head that makes your scarecrow unique. You can use old clothes for a classic look, put them in a spooky Halloween costume, or dress them up to look like your favorite movie character. This is a free event for all ages and works best with a group of people working as a team. Registration is required.

Location: Pullen Park 408 Ashe Avenue, Raleigh, NC

Youngsville Fall Festival (9/28 9am-3pm)

Messtival!! (9/29 10am-3pm) The Museum of Life & Science will be capping off Take A Child Outside week with a celebration of all things messy. From mud to finger paint and slime to sand, they will have lots of sensory hands-on play that is anything but clean--sounds fun, right? Kids can dance in a pool of oobleck or participate in a collaborative painting project. Blow bubbles, paint your face, make a mud pie—the choice is yours---it is the perfect opportunity to let it all go and get dirty! They recommend families bring a change of clothes or come dressed for messy play. Several outdoor exhibits will have washing stations or changing areas.

Included with admission (General Admission $21, Ages 3-12 $16; 2 and under free); free for Museum members

Location: Museum of Life and Science, 433 Murray Ave, Durham, NC

We are so blessed to live where we do and have all these opportunities available---and this is only one weekend of fun!  Do not miss out! Make some memories, laugh, and play----that is what life is all about. If you are out of town this weekend, there are many more weekends left of the fall. Get outside---you will not regret it :)
