If you've lived in the Triangle for more than 5 minutes, chances are you've noticed, or heard someone comment, on how fast the area is growing. I've personally lived in Wake County since I was a young child, and so many cities, including my current home of Wake Forest, look incredibly different now than they did in 1995, or even 2005. Everyday it seems more and more people are moving to the area, and more and more buildings and homes are erected to house them.

What city would you guess is the fastest growing in the Triangle?

According to the US Census Bureau the Triangle has an unexpected contender taking the top spot! Knightdale, NC is now the fastest growing city in the Triangle.  In fact, in 2018 Knightdale took the number 3 spot in all of North Carolina for growth. Part of this growth comes from the fact that 540 and Interstate 87 have opened up, so North Carolina homeowners and renters who may have originally moved toward the western parts of the area are now feeling less commuting stress.

My husband and I lived in Knightdale for a few years in the mid-2000s while we were dating and when we first got married. We loved that the town felt small, and yet we had all the conveniences of living in a bigger city. We still visit frequently with friends in the area, and while it has grown a ton, it doesn't feel like it's changed for the worst by any means. If you're in the area you have to check out a few of our favorite Knightdale spots:

1. Knightdale Station Park & Trails
This awesome park features a playground, dog park, walking trails, and plenty of room to just chill on a warm, sunny day. There is a little something for everyone - we've even seen people with portable hammocks enjoying a nap. Our kids particularly enjoy the playground, and as adults we love the next door neighbor - see below!

2. Oak City Brewing
Located steps from Knightdale Station Park is Oak City Brewing. Housed inside a 1920s bungalow, Oak City is the perfect place for grabbing a drink with friends. You can bring your own food to the outdoor seating area, or grab something from the rotating food trucks that are frequently on site. There are 20 beers always on tap ranging from a tart sour to a full-bodied stout. Something for everyone - including my picky husband!

3. Hair By Amanda at Nikki Taylor Salon
I drive all the way from Wake Forest to have my hair done by the fabulous Amanda Page of Nikki Taylor Salon because she is just THAT good. She keeps my blonde fresh, my bob chopped, and is so much fun to talk to. If you're looking for a new stylist check Amanda out!

4. Boxcar Coffee & Scoops
Before my appointments, I typically stop in right next door and grab a drink or snack from Boxcar. The atmosphere in here is so cool and relaxed, and not at all like your typical chain shop. With coffee beans from Counter Culture in Durham, NC, milk and ice cream from Maple View Farm in Hillsboro, and bread from Neomonde in Morrisville, you can feel proud of shopping local at this Knightdale gem!

There you have it! Just a few of the best parts of Knightdale, and I haven't even talked about the food ;-) Do yourself a favor and spend a weekend checking Knightdale out if you're considering a move any time soon.
