Fresh Baked

As Fall starts to peek its head, the leaves on the trees begin their beautiful transformation into gorgeous pieces of artwork.  The temperatures outside start to drop and thoughts of warm cozy drinks begin to be the norm.  Along with those cups of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, I always like to add a fresh baked muffin or scone to accompany it.  Southern Wake County has some wonderful local bakeries and each of them offers a little something different but all of them bring you something delicious.  Both Fuquay Varina and Holly Springs have bakeries that each town can be proud of and brag about.

Fuquay Varina has an awesome bakery located right in the heart of downtown, Stickboy Bread Company.  SBC is a “real bakery”.  They are owned and run by Josh and Katie Dies and everything is made is small batches and baked daily in their kitchen on S. Main St.  They offer a variety of fresh baked breads that are on a rotating schedule to keep not only the bread fresh but also keeps the offered variety from being “stale”.  (Bread Schedule)  

Along with their delicious breads, they also offer a wide variety of pastries including sticky buns, scones, muffins and the absolute best cookies you could want.  On top of all of that they also offer cakes and pies by the slice or take the whole thing.  If you find yourself in “The Quay”, stop by for an afternoon treat…..and don’t fear, they have a full coffee bar  along with smoothie options.

Holly Springs is no slouch when it comes to the scrumptiousness of small town bakeries.  Bestow Baked Goods located at 4208 Lassiter Rd (off of Sunset Lake Rd) has a great variety of cakes, cookies and breakfast pastries.  

Soft and Chewy in the middle and a little more crispy around the edges, Bestow offers about 6 different cookie options daily for your taste bud pleasure.  You can start you day off with one of their breakfast pastries choosing from several different scone flavors including one of my favorites, cranberry orange.  If scones are not in your wheelhouse, then you may want to consider their homemade sweet potato donuts or “chunky monkey” muffins…….YUM!!!
