Let's Taco About It
Let’s Taco About It
Straight from my biography on welcometocarolina.com, “if Taco Tuesday were a Holiday, I could celebrate every day.” Let’s take a look at a few of my favorite places to eat tacos and Mexican/Latin food as well as a few spots which I have heard are great and that I look forward to checking out. There are many reasons which I like these next few restaurants made this list, the food, the atmosphere and the friendly staff.
Let’s start in Wake Forest a few miles north of Main Street, not only does this restaurant have an official “Taco Tuesday” they also have an extensive menu which is delicious, allow me to introduce Don Julios, and if you know the staff you definitely know they are friendly and accommodating and Danny the bartender is a local celebrity. If you are in the area and looking for a great spot to eat for lunch or dinner, then you need to check them out.
A few miles south in Wakefield you will find Casa Cubana, you will feel as if you have walked into Havana. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Casa Cubana has a wide variety of options, looking for a great deal on Taco Tuesday then you definitely will need to check them out. They offer $2 tacos to include, beef, pork, chicken and jerked chicken, the variety is nice. The staff is very nice and very accommodating. Want a taste of Cuba then look no further than Casa Cubana.
Cruising around Mid-Town east, near Wegmans and Trader Joes and get the craving for “Dang” Good Tacos, (edited), then make a pit-stop into Torchy Taco’s. Torchy’s was founded in Austin, Texas and have over 90 locations now and has been a popular spot since entering Raleigh. They pride themselves on great food and great drinks. A fun fact about Torchy’s is that support national and local organizations and believe in a leaving the world a better place than they found it, that is a restaurant you can definitely get behind and support.
A new spot and one that I have not had the pleasure of visiting YET, and one that I most certainly will, sooner than later is Soul Taco. One look at the menu and I can already tell this place is the real deal, fusing together a few different types of food to bring a quality menu and also ambiance. Do yourself a favor and check out Soul Taco asap, as I am looking at the menu, I can see this spot in my near future.
If you know them then you love them, even if you have not had the pleasure of eating this next place you have more than likely heard of them, Big T’s Tacos. Big T’s is a taco food truck and ensure to check out their social media pages to find where they will be cooking up fresh tacos. They have a nice variety but what really put Big T’s on the map is their Birria Tacos. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, and go directly to Big T’s.
Here is a bonus and not a hole in the wall but a hole in a gas station and so good they do not even have a website, Taqueria la Esquina, is the name of the restaurant. They are located in a Shell Gas Station in Morrisville on Chapel Hill Rd. The food is authentic, the staff is friendly, they are very efficient even at peak times and the prices are affordable. They open early but they do close at three. This is a great spot to eat a filling lunch, seating is limited so do not have your heart set on eating there.
I hope you enjoy these spots, full disclosure I am sure I missed a few of your favorites and I probably even left a favorite of two of mine off my list but that’s where you come in and let me know your favorites and let’s grab some lunch!
