North Carolina State Fair

The North Carolina State Fair which runs from 10/12-10/22 is an iconic event that draws in folks from all corners of the state, creating a vibrant tapestry of fun, food, and festivities. Nestled in Raleigh, our very own backyard in the Triangle area, the fair is a spectacle that captures the essence of North Carolina's rich culture.
Agricultural Extravaganza: At the heart of the State Fair lies its agricultural roots. It's not just about the thrilling rides and cotton candy; it's a celebration of the hardworking farmers and their bountiful harvests. The fair showcases the best livestock, from prize-winning pigs to majestic horses. The scent of hay mingles with the laughter of children as they marvel at the impressive array of animals, providing a connection to the agricultural heritage that runs deep in North Carolina. Some features are the Antique Farm Machinery exhibit, the Flower and Garden Show featuring local growers and Heritage Circle with tobacco growers, folk dancers and cider house.
Foodie's Paradise: For many, the fair is synonymous with indulging in gastronomic delights that push the boundaries of creativity. Imagine biting into a deep-fried concoction that's a fusion of southern comfort and carnival extravagance. No trip to the State Fair would be complete without some fried food. This year you can indulge in deep fried ribs, brisket and waffles on a stick, deep fried cinnamon apple bread pudding bites or how about dill pickle donuts?! Maybe you’d like to try an ostrich smashburger, bacon mac and cheese sundae or boozie cupcakes.
Entertainment Galore: The fair is not just about sights and tastes; it's a symphony of entertainment. From gravity-defying rides that make your heart race to live music that soothes the soul, there's something for everyone. From the ferris wheel providing a panoramic view of the fairgrounds to the berry go round, zombie hotel, or Wipeout ride, there is something for every member of the family. And don't forget the games—test your skills and win a stuffed animal as a trophy of your fair conquest. Don’t forget the nightly fireworks display at 9:45pm.
Cultural Showcase: North Carolina's diverse culture takes center stage at the fair. Traditional crafts, art exhibits, and live performances reflect the state's rich tapestry of history and heritage. Local artisans proudly display their creations, offering a glimpse into the artistic soul of the community. Whether it's a bluegrass band strumming a tune or a dance performance that echoes the rhythms of the region, the fair is a celebration of the cultural mosaic that makes North Carolina unique.
Community Spirit: Beyond the lights and attractions, the fair is a gathering of communities. Families come together, friends reunite, and strangers share a laugh over a shared experience. It's a reminder that the fair is not just an event; it's a communal celebration that brings people closer. From the smallest towns to the bustling cities, North Carolinians unite under the fair's banner, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie.
Making a difference: The Smithfield Foods Hunger Relief Day at the North Carolina State Fair, begun in 1993, is Thursday 10/19. On this day, fairgoers can gain free admission by bringing six cans of non-perishable food which will be donated to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. It's a win-win—attendees enjoy the fair, and the less fortunate benefit from the generosity. This not only fosters a sense of togetherness but also highlights corporate social responsibility. Smithfield Foods’ initiative has become one of the largest one day canned food drives in the state of North Carolina.
Memories in the Making: For those considering a move to Wake Forest or anywhere in the Triangle area, the State Fair is a microcosm of the vibrant lifestyle they can expect. It's not just about rides and games; it's about forging memories with loved ones. From the first scream on a roller coaster to the shared joy of indulging in a funnel cake, the fair is a living testament to the quality of life awaiting those who choose to make North Carolina their home.
The North Carolina State Fair is not just an annual event—it's a celebration of life, community, and the rich tapestry of our state. Whether you're savoring deep-fried delicacies, riding the carousel with your family, or simply taking in the sights and sounds, the fair is a testament to the warmth and hospitality that defines North Carolina. It's a snapshot of the lifestyle that awaits those considering a move to the Triangle area, where every day is an opportunity to create lasting memories.
