If you are looking for a unique and decadent dining experience, you need to check out Simply Crepes located in Lafayette Village in Raleigh.  This is our “go to” place when we have family and friends visiting from out of town. What they can do with a crepe is unbelievable. If you want breakfast, dinner, or dessert, you will be pleasantly surprised with the assortment of options. Their recipes are made from scratch each day with quality & locally sourced ingredients. With fresh whipped cream on their dessert crepes, your tastebuds will be watering. They also use 100% pure maple syrup in their recipes.  

Our family favorite is the Philly Cheese Steak & Turkey B.L.A.T.  For dessert it is always a toss up for the Simply Strawberry and Fudge Brownie crepes. To solve this dilemma, my husband and son split the Fudge Brownie while my daughter and I savor the Simply Strawberry. The portions are a good size. You can easily split one breakfast/dinner crepe AND one dessert crepe between 2 people. The crepe prices range from $9.50-$15.00. 

We had never eaten crepes before we stumbled upon this restaurant--in fact, we didn’t know much about them.  My first thought was that it would taste like a pancake and how was that going to be tasty with non-breakfast food?  To my surprise the crepes itself had a neutral taste and airy texture while the ingredients stuffed inside them and various sauces drizzled on top really brought so many flavors together to make some impressive crepes.  The ambience in the restaurant is very relaxing with an environment that is comforting with wooden beams on the ceiling, classic chandeliers, wine/coffee bar, and plenty of circular tables drawing the family together. The staff is very attentive and polite. You can see the cook in the kitchen making the masterpieces which I like.  There are gluten free, vegetarian, and lactose free options which is a bonus! They also have salads you can eat the regular way or stuffed inside a crepe! The flavor combinations have been well thought out and will not disappoint. Weekly Specials include: ½ off Mimosa Mondays, ½ price appetizers for all teachers on Tuesdays, 50% off all wine ALL DAY on Wednesdays, and a FREE Buckwheat crepe upgrade on Gluten Free Fridays.

The family that made this dream a reality has 3 locations---1 in Raleigh and 2 in New York.  Karen & Pierre Heroux use an old family recipe passed down through many generations. Pierre has been making crepes since he was 12 and Karen has been a mastermind in the kitchen coming up with all different kinds of tasty concoctions. They definitely have a history and love for crepes!  

Next time you are out wandering through LaFayette Village, you must stop at Simply Crepes even if it is just for dessert.  You will not see or taste anything else like it in the Triangle. Check out their menu here.
