In the residential construction, design, and real estate industry, the Fall season holds more spectacle than just football and Halloween.  The Parade of Homes is the see and be seen of builders and interior decorators, alike.  It’s a series of weekends to showcase expertise to potential home buyers as well as industry peers.  Whether you’re in the market to purchase or just getting ideas for home renovations, it’s the perfect way to gain insight into building and design trends.  I managed to make my rounds to a handful of parade homes throughout Wake Forest on the final weekend and spent the afternoon alongside one of my best friends taking plenty of notes and photos to share.

Sliding “Barn” Doors

Love them or hate them, one thing is for sure, sliding doors are sticking around for a little while longer.  Some designers opted for a more sophisticated parlor-style finish, in lieu of French doors, while others maintained modern farmhouse charm with a more rustic selection.

Painted Trim

A look that transitions between the historical homes lining main street and moody, modern vibes, painted trim is so hot right now (Zoolander reference, anyone?). Walking through the parade, this look is making quite a comeback and it also makes quite a statement.  Bonus points for blacks, greys, and bold hues.

Exposed Box Beams

Whether decorative or functional, exposed beams have returned and are having a moment.  The look of beams can be anywhere from contemporary to rustic.  No matter your style, they add a striking architectural element and are sure to make a statement to any room.

Gold, Gold, Gold

This is probably the most polarizing finish of all finishes.  From faucets to cabinet pulls to light fixtures to veins in the tile, silky, satiny gold made an appearance in every home toured.  If you’ve been on the fence, I say go for it; gold is no longer the shiny element of the 90s.

If you’re like me, you agree that the beauty is in the details and I hope this post leaves you feeling inspired!  For more pictures head to my Instagram account @kelskapowski for a full recap of my afternoon on the Parade!
