Wegmans, It Is More Than A Grocery Store!
There was a lot of buzz and excitement for the grand opening of our Wake Forest Wegmans. It was hard not to be drawn in on that first day to see what all the fuss was about. Like a magnetic pull, I was also victim to the madness. There is something truly unique seeing a huge cleared dirt field and then being able to walk in to see the finished business. It’s just fun to see what they created. I have been to other Wegmans before, most recently the one in Raleigh, so I kind of knew what I was in for. However, I wasn’t really prepared for the spectacle of the whole “opening” thing. Being opening day there seemed to be as much staff as there were customers to make sure the opening festivities would run as smooth as possible. Everything was very orderly and the design of the store really maximized a great use of space. There were people everywhere but I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I was able to get a few things easily and check out immediately. The number of self check outs made it so easy to grab and go. What I decided to grab was lunch! Yes, I went to a grocery store to pickup lunch. It was almost as seamless as one of my favorites, Chipotle. What was so wonderful were all the options. Pre-covid Wegmans use to have massive salad bar arrangements where you could grab pretty much anything quickly. Now, in the Covid shopping world, they have been replaced by more grab and go packaged items and counter services. I really felt like I was in a huge food court. There was so much to choose from. Did I want a burger at the Burger Bar? Was I in the mood for Italian? Or maybe a butter chicken dish? They had a great sandwich deli and pizza counter service as well. You name it and you could pretty much find it. I really knew all this from other Wegmans, but what I discovered that day was their order ahead option and grab and go options. Meals to go! This is something that has grown in popularity so much since Covid has begun. Partially out of necessity at the time and convenience. Wegmans has an app called meals 2 go. It’s separate from their regular app and brings you through all the meal options. I personally will be taking advantage of the in store grab and go. You can get it curb side, grab and go, carry out, or even delivery. I took advantage of the grab and go Sushi. It was good quality Sushi! It was not the gas station sushi that you might find at some quick grab and go places. If you preorder food on the app it will be waiting for you in the meal pick up area. They also have several designated parking spots specifically for meals to go, so it is possible to order from your office, drive there, park, and have it brought to you so you can be on your way. I could also eat it there. They have additional tables outside.
Besides the prepared food options, you have a massive store of pretty much everything you need. From large fresh salmon fillets, lobster tanks, cheese from around the world, and many other great grocery options. They also have a great wine and beer selection.
This store is the beginning of a lot of big things to come on this side of 98. They will be a great addition to Wake Forest and offer many things from quick options, complete meals to go, or everything you might need to make that special meal. Don’t feel like you have to wait until the buzz dies down. Check them out now. It really is not hard to get in and out. They will get you set up with what you need and on your way!
