One of my absolute favorite shows to watch is ABC's Shark Tank. If you haven't ever seen it, you're definitely missing out! What's not to love about entrepreneurship, especially when a product comes up that we've all invented in our heads, and never took the next step toward making a reality - amiright?! While all the amazing adults on the show are great to watch, i'm particularly fond of the children who come on to showcase their products and inventions. It's amazing to see young entrepreneurs who have truly wrapped their mind around the concept of owning a business and all that it entails at such a young age. If you have a young entrepreneur of your own, or you enjoy supporting young entrepreneurs you'll want to keep reading!

Young residents of the Triangle will have their shot to showcase their entrepreneurship at Wake Forest's Young Entrepreneurs Fair during the awesome 39th annual family event called Meet in the Street. During this event, children between the ages of 9-14 years old can sign up for a spot to create and sell their handmade goods.

Details: The Fair will be held on May 4th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm in the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot located at 350 S. White Street. The event will go on in any sort of whether except for lightning, in which case Meet in the Street will be cancelled with no rain date. Booth space is 10’x10’ and includes one table and two chairs. Please note: Electricity is not available, and generators are not permitted. Participant must provide tent and table cloth, if desired, and handle setup of booth. Setup is from 8:00 - 9:00 am the morning of the event.

Rules for Entry and Sales: Everything sold be young entrepreneurs must be original and handcrafted. Some examples include handmade jewelry, pottery, artwork and clothing. Homemade food and drink are also allowed. You must provide a photo(s) of  any of the items to be sold and/or a detailed description.

Applications: Applications must be submitted before February 1st, 2019. Booth space is limited, so participants will be selected by the Meet in the Street committee and notified by February 15, 2019. There may be no more than TWO participants per booth. All participants must be 9-14 years of age before May 4, 2019. All participants must sign a photo/video release waiver and be willing to share testimonial experiences after the event. Application must be filled out completely and accompanied by photo(s) of items to be sold. Photos can be emailed to corey@wakeforestchamber.org or submitted as hardcopies.

Awards: Entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to win awards in the following categories: Most Creative Booth Design, Most Unique Handmade Item, and Most Business Potential.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity for your young entrepreneur reach out to Ann at the Chamber of Commerce (
ann@wakeforestchamber.org) for an application - and make sure you get it submitted before February 1st!

Good luck to all! We can't wait to see what the amazing kids of this community come up with!
