Should You Stay Or Should You Go? A Guide To Your Next Staycation

Looking for a bit of reprieve from the daily grind but not looking to venture too far from home or even leave home at all? Well, a staycation might be exactly what the Dr. ordered, let’s take a look at what can give you the R&R without needing to travel and without adding a large number to the bottom line in your budget. A proper plan will allow your staycation to give you what I can only guess to be a much-needed break from the stressors of life. Here are seven tips which can assist you in making your staycation perfect.

  1. Put together a staycation budget

Your budget will be the foundational piece of providing structure to your staycation. Are you looking for a week at the Ritz, or staying at an AirBnB or even just staying at home? These decisions will impact on how you not only spend your money but also your time. Staying within your budgetary means will allow you to ensure that you do not have financial regret looming over you during the staycation.

  1. Check Out Local Landmarks

Sure, you live in your city, and know places in your town or surrounding areas but there are sure to be places in your city that you have not been or even places that you have been but on your staycation, you can visit longer and have be on a time crunch. It’s always fun to be a tourist in your own town and can grant you a new perspective on your city.  Parks, museums, breweries, restaurants, are all good places to check out.

  1. VRBO or Airbnb

Renting a room can put a new perspective on your city and spice up the staycation. Depending on your budget this is a great option to get outside your four walls and can really add a true vacation feel to your staycation. Hotels are great options as well and check out discount websites as your may be able to find a deal!

  1. Make a list of plans

Prior to starting your staycation make a list of what you would like to accomplish and to ensure you are able to maximize your time while also guiding you during your staycation. The list could include restaurants you would like to eat at or other venues you would like to visit. Be as thorough our vague as you wish.

  1. Do something different

It is easy to get trapped in your regular schedule of plans or routine when staying in your town; however, this is your time to explore and plan alternative activities which you may have not experienced before. Be open minded and utilize this time to be a tourist in your own town. The new experiences will bring the staycation to life even while you are in your own city.

  1. Avoid Burn Out Schedule Downtime

Most of the time when one gets back from an out-of-town vacation it seems as though you need another vacation to recover. Avoid overscheduling during your staycation and take advantage of the ability to rest and recover but also to be spontaneous should an event arise that you would like to attend on a whim. Remember that self-care allows you to be your best self and when we are our best selves, we can help others more.

  1. Find a Keepsake

Your town or city surely has a keepsake or souvenir that it is known for or even while you are on the staycation purchasing something that can serve as a fond memory of your staycation. Find something and treat yourself.

A staycation can happen anytime of the year but in my opinion spring and summer are the perfect times to take one. The weather is nice, and you can enjoy the outdoors as well as indoor activities. So will you be taking a staycation this year? If so, let me know if any of these pointers helped in you in your planning!
